More cards!

It's looking a little cloudy out so no run for me today. Here are some cards, not very recent ones, but some nonetheless that I've been collecting for another post.

Coloured with copics, cut with my Silhouette, and I believe the stamp is a Penny Black acrylic set.
This was again coloured with Copics, the corner punches are Martha Stewart, top notes cut with Silhouette.
Valentine's card, paper piecing freebie from myscrapchick.com.

There's my cat. He didn't want to move out of the way when I was taking the picture, so he's in it. Birthday card, made with kanzeshi flowers!
Copied the idea from http://www.amazingpapergrace.com/cut-and-tuck-medallion-box/. I used Spellbinders fold and tuck dies. Super cute but I couldn't get cardstock to cut properly in my Cuttlebug machine. I had to use thin patterned paper passed through several times to get a crisp cut.

2012: a new beginning

I went home for the holidays and was very productive. I made several cards!!

I made this one as a new year's card. Had a little difficulty lining up the Martha Stewart punch so that I could have four fans in between the corner punches instead of the standard three. The cherry blossom flowers are actually from a different stamp, cut out individually. You can't really tell, but some are adhered with foam tape for a little depth!

The second card I made based on a card I saw in a magazine. Can't remember which one anymore, but I really liked the way the Garden Trellis Martha Stewart punch was used. This one was much easier to line up to get it to the right size. The biggest flower is a technique I picked up some time ago and really like. I've used it on several projects now, where being stuffed in an envelope or closed into a scrapbook weren't going to be a problem! Basically you start off with a 6-petal flower out four times. The first one, you cut a slit between two petals, then overlap and glue them so it's almost like a cone shape. The second, you cut out the equivalent of one petal, then overlap and create a cone again. The third, you cut out two petals, then repeat for both pieces this time. And the fourth, you cut the flower in half (remove three petals), but you only need one half. Once your pieces have dried, give the cones a little trim so they're less pointy, and fit them together just like a matryoshka doll! SO EASY! A little time consuming, but the effect is worth it. And I think it's better than buying flowers!~

I think this one is going to be a long post. I've saved up a few other cards I made in 2011:
Mother's day card. Fairly simple. Was getting to know my Silhouette, experimenting with various papers.
Wanted to try folding that green thing in the back. Wasn't as easy as I thought it would be!
This was a going away card. I cut the words with my Silhouette, and the bottom part was a stamp. I thought that part was the most interesting. This card was pretty thick, about 3/4 of an inch probably. Post office gave me a rough time with this one..
Experimenting with different layouts of the same stamp. You can't tell, but some of the snow has white flock on it.
My first card with Copics! The hedgehog was weird to colour as I couldn't decide where the grey should end on his body!

Lately, I've also been really into nail polish! I bought myself some Magnetic Polish when it came out at Sephora. Pretty cool effect I have to say. Then my friend introduced me to nail stamping and BornPrettyStore! I bought a whole bunch of stuff from there for my sister. Again, not as easy as it looks on youtube! The colour changing polish was pretty fun as well. I'm taking off the zebra stamp I have on now, giving my nails some breathing time tomorrow, then when I get back from work, I'm going to try out the Nails Inc Special Effects overglaze polish set I bought!

Whew. Ok time for bed now!

Back to blogging....

I think it was just a matter of time before I started writing a blog again.. Mostly just to rant about random things and have another venue to post some of my papercrafting creations. I think it's nice to get a little feedback sometimes other than from my mom.

So a little about me, without getting too personal.. I live in Toronto, mid-twenties, working full time, papercrafting part time, crazy cat lady to be, love soccer, snowboarding, and generally just being outdoors. I'd like to one day maybe own my own shop or run my own business of some sort.

First rant, then I'll get to posting my first creation. The heating/AC unit in my condo broke. I live in a fairly new building and it just decided to crap out this year. The repair work to fix the main problem is so expensive that the contractor has managed to convince me to replace the whole thing. $3000. There goes all my Christmas present money! I will be living off KD for 2012.

Anyway, I'm trying to stay positive. I get to stay home today and watch this guy install the new unit, while I work from home. =p

My mom describes my scrapbooking style as being "over-embellished". Can such a thing exist?? I've been trying to tone it down. Sucks less creative juices out of me and I have more to show at the end of the day if I don't spend it all trying to coordinate everything perfectly. I had a really cute picture of my sister and the puppy from this summer that I'd been wanting to scrapbook. I finally did this past weekend. Used my Silhouette to cut out the title and photo border. I can also attach those too! I'll just have to figure out how!
